| Section
8 Rental Program
Section 8 is a federally funded rental assistance program
that subsidizes the cost of rental housing for eligible households.
Low-income families and individuals rent privately owned housing,
and the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles pays
the owner directly for a portion of the monthly rent.
To be eligible, a household’s income must be verified
as equal to or below the income limits set by HUD. Families,
single elderly persons, and single persons with a disability
are eligible to receive rental assistance.
Applicants on the waiting list are served on a first-called/first
served basis with a preference for those who live or work
in the Los Angeles county jurisdiction at the time of selection.
As current participants leave the program, assistance is offered
to people on the waiting list in order of their date and time
of application, and according to "local preferences",
or priorities established by the Housing Authority. Due to
the length of the waiting list and current voucher availability,
we are unable to specify when registrants will be served.
