What Information Will I Have to Give?

When you call, please have the following information ready:

  • For all other people who will be living in the household: Names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and relationship to the Head of Household.
  • Sources of all household members' income
  • Information concerning household members with a disability

How Long Can I Expect to Wait for Assistance?

Applicants on the Waiting List are served on a first-called/first served basis. Selection criteria includes jurisdiction and funding availability. Due to the length of the Waiting List, which changes daily, the Housing Authority is unable to provide a specific date when registrants on the waiting list will be served.

To check if you are still on the Waiting List, please call (800) 731-4663 or (562) 347-4663. Applicants should call at least once a year to check their status. Please have your Social Security number available for faster service.

What Should I Do if my Address or Family Composition Changes?

If you move or your family composition changes while you are on the Section 8 Waiting List, you must notify the Housing Authority IN WRITING immediately. Failure to report changes in writing may result in removal of your name from the Waiting List. The Housing Authority must be able to reach you by mail at the address you have provided.

Mail changes in address and/or family composition to:

Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles
Applications and Eligibility Unit
P.O. Box 2129
Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670

Please include the name and Social Security number for the Head of Household, and the previous and new address. Always keep a copy of your correspondence for your records.

What Happens When My Name Reaches the Top of the Waiting List?

When funding is available, applicants at the top of the waiting list will be mailed a pre-application to fill out and return. The Housing Authority uses the pre-application information to determine if the applicant meets basic eligibility criteria. Applicants that meet basic eligibility criteria are sent complete program application materials.
