LOS ANGELES COUNTY HOUSING COMMISSION
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors serves as Commissioners of the Community Development Commission (CDC) of the County of Los Angeles – which includes serving as the Commissioners of the County Redevelopment Agency and the County Housing Authority (two of the many functions of the CDC). As such the Board of Supervisors sets policy for the CDC, the Redevelopment Agency, and the Housing Authority.
The Housing Authority also has a twelve-member Housing Advisory Commission which meets monthly. It is their responsibility to review Housing Authority matters and make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.
Each of the five County Supervisors selects an individual who is not a tenant, but has a background in housing, finance, construction, or community involvement to serve on the Housing Commission. These representatives serve four-year terms.
Six of the members are “tenant” commissioners who serve two-year terms; one of them must be at least 62 years old. They represent residents of properties owned or managed by the Housing Authority and participants in the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program. Tenant commissioners are chosen after successfully completing an application and interview process.
As a grantee of the Shelter + Care Program, we must obtain input from a person who is homeless or formerly homeless. To satisfy this requirement, one additional member was added to the Housing Commission. This commissioner will be selected from a pool of candidates recommended by homeless service providers.
All Housing Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
